Ion 3.0 and above.
By default, Ion v3 Projects are set to clear the Internet Explorer’s cache at application startup (generally on windows user login). Cache clearing is designed to ensure that Ion will properly display managed content. This is especially important when Project configuration files are updated after a user has been using their machine for some period of time. Without Cache Clearing there is a risk that newly configured managed content may not display as intended.
When an Ion v3 Project is created, the ‘Clear Cache on Startup’ setting is enabled by default.
As the description indicates, user Cookies are not removed. Clearing the cache on startup may cause certain web applications – especially those with heavy graphics and larger content objects – to function slightly slower on first load after clearing the cache, but normal load times return until the cache is cleared again.
For organizations that prefer not to clear the cache on startup, the feature can be easily turned off by changing the Setting value to ‘Disabled’.
Once changed, simply save the Project file and deploy the new configuration to client systems using your preferred method of Flat File or Group Policy distribution.
If the decision is made to deploy Ion v3 project with Clear Cache On Start disabled, it is critical to ensure the cache is cleared on per user basis in following situations to avoid unexpected results when loading Ion managed applications.
Prior to first use as a post-install script.
Every time deployed Ion V3 project is updated.
This can be automated by running a script that executes the following command on a per user basis
Rundll32.exe InetCpl.cpl,ClearMyTracksByProcess 4108
