ActiveX Will Also be Moving to Edge IE Mode!

As everyone (I hope) is already aware, IE EOL is nigh (June 2022). Fret not; all Browsium products are Edge IE Mode Compatible as of v4.9. Upgrades are available for no additional charge for customers with a current M&S agreement in place. Ion customers: Once IE is no longer supported, Ion will no longer function if running any version before v4.9

To be fair, Microsoft’s promise that applications being run in IE – often mission-critical – will run the same in Edge IE Mode is mostly correct. Unfortunately, that also includes inherent ActiveX security vulnerabilities and monthly cumulative update compatibility issues that have always plagued legacy applications.

Bottom line: IE’s platform has changed, but many of the vulnerabilities and complex compatibility issues remain.

Believe me, I know it’s a sore subject. Who wants to admit that their modern IT environment is still dependent on a browser released nearly 30 years ago?

The one thing that has become very clear during this migration to Edge IE Mode is that there are a surprising number of IE-based applications in the enterprise, including a handful that are still mission-critical applications too costly to rewrite or replace. The time to discover and manage your IE dependencies is now – before the help desk calls blow up in June.
