Remediating strings in responses with no content-type

Applies To

Ion 3.1 and later

Summary

In rare cases, a server may return a response with no ‘Content-Type’ HTTP header field.  Ion assumes these responses have the ‘application/octet-stream’ binary MIME type and will not make changes to the body, even if the body is text. These strings can be remediated by adding an entry to the Content-type Whitelist.

Details

If you need to remediate string content returned with no ‘Content-Type’ HTTP header field, follow these steps:

  1. Create a Profile implementing your string changes.
  2. Add ‘application/octet-stream’ to Profile > Advanced Profile Settings > Content-type Whitelist.
  3. Create a Rule for your Profile that targets the resource you wish to remediate.
  4. Save your changes.

Ion should now change the targeted content.
